In September 2004 I hopped on a plane, flew to Sacramento, rented a car and proceeded to do
something WAY overdue. Some might even say decades overdue. I visited family.
I spent time with; Uncle Bob and
Aunt Terry in and around Nevada
City; Cynthia and her new husband Francisco in Fremont;
and Darren, Jennifer, Jackson and Lindsay in Richmond
(actually I really didn’t spend much time with Jennifer
and the kids. Sorry. Next time!).
Nevada City is the classic California mining town. Steeped in history it remains a quaint
little village nestled in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Sorry, didn’t mean to sound like a
spokesman from the Chamber of Commerce.
I got to visit a couple of jobs sights with Cynthia and Paco. It was very interesting to
see the art that they create. I had no idea.
I was able to spend a day in San Francisco. Walked for about 5 hours straight, lost a
baseball cap to the wind, had some Fish & Chips, took a couple hundred pictures.
Pretty typical touristy day in The City by the Bay.
My last night in California Darren and I went to an A’s game. Truth be told, I went to
a Mariners game at Network Associates Coliseum, and Darren was kind enough to come along.
I’d never been to that park. It was a lot of fun. Mariners played the spoiler and helped
keep the A’s out of the playoffs. Oh, darn.
